I have a Tivo. And I have the interactive guide. It connects through my lan and updates the program guide for my cable provider, Videotron. So whats the problem? They have had TiVo available to canadians for a while now. The problem was getting the machine. I got mine on ebay for like 20$. Then i just went online to tivo's website, set up my subscription, and VOILA! Tivo in my home. So whats all this complaining about? I live in Montreal. I have a Tivo. It's because Quebec has fought so long and hard to be different. Different law, different structures, Quebec works so hard to be different that the rest of the world recognized it's easier to ignore them "Not applicable in QC" than it is to join them, "you mean we REALLY have to translate this into french and make it twice as big and, and, forget it!" I pose you this question, why in France do the red signs of the octagonal variety say "STOP" yet the one on my street corner says "ARRET". Who is posing the correct form??? Way to go tivo, if enough services followed suit we might see some changes in this province for the better. Just build your own HTPC. A computer with a video capture card (and software like beyondtv for windows, or mythtv for linux) will take you a LOT farther on less money and no subscription fees. I get the non-digital package and get what shows I miss off the internet. save lots of money that way. watch when I want, no commercials, rewind and pause live tv. plus you can watch movies from your computer. it can't be beat! The real problem however is that if there is no interactive TV-guide for the cable/satelite provider in your city, it is not very useful. You can only use it to pause live TV, which is pretty cool in itself, or manually enter start and stop times to record like you would with a VCR. So if there are no TV-guides for Québec you have to resort to serious hackery with running your own TV-guide server.
