Sunday reading

Get up, make a pot of coffee, and while away the morning hours with this long and lovely New York Times Magazine piece on the Arcade Fire. The author gets a few local details wrong (last time I checked, Mile End wasn’t quite a Polish neighbourhood), but it’s a good read anyway.

Polish neighbourhood? Aside from St. Michael’s and the (fantastic) restaurant next door, there isn’t very much Polish about this place at all.

No, although the pierogis are excellent. (Grins.) I guess the author didn’t have a chance to wander around much, which is a shame.

This is neither here nor there, but I was on Masson Street with some friends yesterday and we came across a Polish grocery store they served some pretty yummy sandwiches. Last place in the city I expected to find anything Polish, but it actually seemed to have more Polish-speaking customers than the St. Viateur store.
