Running to the mall
The New Balance store is opening today downtown in the Complexe Les Ailes. I can’t wait to peruse the footwear and gear. I’ve worn New Balance for a few years now and in my opinion, they make the best shoes for running. Whenever I put on a brand new pair, to paraphrase a line from “That 70’s Show” when Red gets a new pair of shoes from his neighbour, “it feels like I’m walking on baby ducks” *sigh*. Running in a new pair of sneakers puts a little extra spring in your step. Too bad I’m not due for a new pair yet. They’re a bit pricey but worth it for the functionality. So to all the runners out there or their loved ones scratching their heads over gift ideas, this might be worth checking out. hint hint

I’m a Saucony fan myself, but I’ve never tried NB so… But I might check out the store this evening.
Actually I went during my lunch hour and it was not as exciting as I’d anticipated. There didn’t seem to be much stock. But maybe they’re going for the sparse look.
I think I’ll stick to my regular running shoe store, Endurance, on St-Denis. They are the only running store I know of that has a track to test run your shoes before you buy. That’s really important to me since I’m an over-pronator.
I’ve seen some ads for Saucony and I’m tempted but NB’s been working for me so far.
I love NB shoes!I had bought a pair of their ‘walking’ shoes a while back (I work standing up/walking/moving around all day long) and they’re SO comfortable and supportive.
That’s all, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents that they are a great shoe brand. :)
I stopped by the store as well, and it’s true, the stock was sparse. It also seemed more fashion oriented than I would have thought a NB store would be. I think Boutique Endurance and Boutique Courir are the two best endurance sport stores in town. I’m not a fan of the running room, but that’s mostly because I don’t like the co-branding.
New Balance runners are extremely comfortable. Also, they are the only brand, which I know of, which specifically make runners in A to E sub-sizes for those of us with wide feet. Most brands just make the standard B width. I recently learned that Saucony and Reebok tend to make runners shaped for slightly wide feet, but don’t go into A to E sub-sizes like New Balance.
