Wash your hands
I’m an IT consultant and as a result, I work at 3-5 different places in a given year. I’ve taken to conducting a visual poll of people who wash their hands after visiting the bathroom. The results of my visual poll are shocking! There are some places where I figure over 50% do not. Others, do much, much better.
Why am I blabbering about this ? It’s now cold and flu season. Local authorities have montreal pegged as the season currently being as “elevated”. Also, I have a cold! I hate colds… and I don’t understand why I always get them. I wash my hands like my life depends on it. I’m like Jerry Seinfeld in a world of Pappi’s! So please, wash your hands.

I feel kind of bad saying this but there’s a woman who works in my building who I’ve noted NEVER washes her hands after using the restroom. She dresses impeccably but she never washes her hands after she exits the stall. Unless she has a private sink in her office that nobody knows about, I say *Eeeew!*. Talk about cooties.
For the heck of it, I googled “germophobe” and the #1 result is a site related to Seinfeld. :)
Oh, and I wanted to add that if you ever spot a cook or waiter not washing their hands after going to the bathroom, don’t always automatically assume that they’re gross and dirty. More often than not, they’ll (hopefully) wash their hands at a sink in the kitchen. There’s not much point washing their hands in a public washroom where, more often than not, patrons don’t wash their hands and then open the door with dirty fingers.
Jay, I say wash ‘em twice then! :P
There are tricks/tips to use in public washrooms… For example taking your paper to dry hands before washing them… Then wash… Dry… Use the paper to close the tap… And to open the door. Throw it out in a garbage outside the bathroom and voilà! It might seem nuts but that’s what I often do. Because yea, most people don’t wash their hands. Or they just quickly put them under a bit of water (without soap) as if that’s going to do anything.
I totally agree Christelle. I used to work at a bakery (Premiere Moisson Atwater) and I’d wash my hands “just for show” for the other people that might have been in there at the same time as me, but I’d then wash them again with strong disinfectant soap that we had in the kitchen… but I cannot speak for everyone in the culinary business. I do wish that more people in general would wash their hands all the time, I know of a few people that don’t.
