Prank turns dangerous

Last night after trick or treating was done, my husband and I took our kids by his parents’ house so they could see them in costume. They gave most of the rest of their candy to my oldest daughter and then his mother handed me a carton of eggs that she had picked up on sale and joked that they were my trick or treat goodies. In return I asked whether they were for eating or whether they were to be used to egg the houses of those who don’t give out candy. All in good fun.

Then this morning I was watching the news on CTV and apparently an egging incident got out of hand on the South Shore last night. A group of people were lurking on the sidewalk and someone tossed an egg or two at a car as it stopped at the stop sign. The driver shouted something at them and the group got angry and swarmed the car. The driver was punched several times and the passenger was stabbed in the back.

Both are fine and recovering but it’s just one more sign to me that the world is a little loony these days. What did this group expect? That they could whip eggs at a car and the driver would say thanks? What is wrong with people these days?

    *shakes head*

I don’t get it at all anymore. I’m starting to think that sooner, rather than later, our world is going to end up like an apocalyptic Mad Max type of thing with everyone carrying a weapon of some sort.
