Extra tunnel

This is kind of cool! Apparently there’s an unused tunnel that extends about a kilometer West of Snowdon which would have been an extension on the blue line. It was supposed to be in the plans back in 1970 but the plans were shelved.

Whenever I used to ride the metro (and honestly, I kind of miss it to tell you the truth; I hate buses but I LOVE the metro), I used to like trying to see into that part of the tunnel that branches off on the green line. I can’t remember which two stops it’s between, maybe someone else knows, but near the Honore-Beaugrand end of the line the tunnel appears to branch off and I’ve always wondered what was down there, figuring maybe it was a storage for extra trains or something. Little did I know there’s an actual extra tunnel on the blue line though. I wonder if you can see it at all if you know where to look. I used to spend a lot of time at Snowdon metro when I was travelling to and from acting classes and I never knew it was there!

I think there’s a vent/emergency exit for that section of the track on Queen Mary near Finchley…

Near the end of the green line there are a couple of tracks that branch off, the Viau Centre and the Beaugrand Garage. Here’s a map of all the metro installations: http://www.metrodemontreal.com/installations/index.html

And here’s the link for more info of the Beaugrand Garage: http://www.emdx.org/rail/metro/beaugrand.php

Some people may not know this but almost all the termini have a very long back station or “arriere-gare”. Theres one behind Cote-Vertu, a very big garage NW of Henri-Bourassa, the Beaugrand garage and the Angrignon garage. The Angrignon garage is actually above ground, the long orange/yellow/red tunnel at Angrignon park.

This long tunnel behind Snowdon also has a bad effect on service on the blue line, because of our signaling system it makes the frequeces long.

There’s also a tunnel that branches off between Charlevoix and Lionel-Groux, I’ve always wondered what was down there as well, and now I know (Duvernay Centre)! Thanks for the links, BEEG.
