Oct YULblog – Why Montréal?

The question posed to most of this month’s YULblog attendees (though unclear) was a fill in the blank:
“I didn’t come to Montréal for the _____. I came for the _____.”
or if you are from here: “I’m not staying in Montréal for the _____. I’m staying for the _____.”

Pierre: Né à Montréal, les montréalais(es)
Patrick: job, les terasses
Isabel: scene, lifestyle
François: pour la proprieté, pour les femmes
AJ: money, Plateau music scene
Myriam: complexe desjardins, les stationnements parallèles
Daniel: the nightlife, and everything else, the subway sound (tou-dou-dooou)
Vero-B: to test my ability to answer random questions in a bar after several pints, to meet cute yulbloggers :-)
Julien: né à Montréal, cheap (inexpensive) lifestyle.
Austin: taxes, lifestyle
blork: didn’t stay for the woman, I stayed for the women (and now I’m staying for the woman).
Martine: poutine, poutine au foie gras.
Michael: les glorieux women.
Frank: baseball, great local brews.

It was a good size crowd for a cold rainy night. Feel free to let me know if you’d like to make any corrections. I wasn’t really clear with the question and I don’t think everyone signed in. Those of you playing at home can also join in with your responses.

See ya next month.

I’m not staying in Montreal for the weather (reason why I didn’t make it to yulblog), I’m staying for the job!

Darn it… Looks like there was a great turnout. Here’s hoping I will get to meet you all next time around.

Dans mon cas (Pierre), effectivement j’aurais du écrire:

“I’m not staying in Montréal à cause de la pluie en hiver. I’m staying for the montréalais(ses).”

    Merci

Une réponse très en retard. Didn’t go to YULblog because of a cold, have been under the weather for a while after that, went to New Brunswick for my brother-in-law’s wedding and been quite busy since.
There are many reasons for me to keep coming back to Montreal. It’s not that it’s the only where I can live and be happy but it just so happens that living in different places (Bloomington, Bamako, South Bend, Lausanne, Cambridge…) has helped me to fall in love with Montreal again.
En fait, j’ai l’impression que c’est le moment idéal pour vivre au Québec, surtout pour quelqu’un qui accorde de l’importance à la diversité.

Désolé de pas être allé à la rencontre. On se revoit en novembre!
