Great Window Display

Based on a suggestion by an unknown source (ha!), it’s been pointed out that the Roots store downtown on the corner of Ste. Catherine & Peel has had 8 real live people dancing up a storm in their window over the last few days. Though it’s unclear if it’s still going on or if their clever display is over by now, but either way I’m sorry I missed it (I won’t have a chance to head downtown any time soon to try and catch it). sshot-17.png

Stores have had real people in their display windows many times over the years, but to team up with a local fitness club to promote both businesses is a pretty intelligent idea. Club Sportif MAA gets to showcase some of their workout routines as demoed by the instructors, and in return, Roots gets to have their schwag front and center and show off it’s functionality.

Apparently this is the second year in a row that they’ve done this. I’ve tried to find some news or photos from either this or last year event, but it seems as though it slipped under the radar. Has anyone spotted it at all?

Read Roots’ official blog for more info.

They’ve been there for a while now! Definitely longer than the last few days…

Could be. I’m just going by what was on their official blog, which their post was dated Oct. 4 and they said that it’s a 5 day thing. *shrugs*

Remember years ago when they had a couple of Australian guys living in the storefront of The Bay downtown? That was so bizarre yet entertaining…

It was the Urban Dream Capsule at The Bay, in the spring of 1999, as part of the FTA festival.

They staged the piece in other places afterwards, sometimes store windows but also other venues like a library. I kept track of them for a few years, but then it just faded out.

I posted about it at the time in the local newsgroup, mtl.general. A webified version of the post is at http://www.pubnix.net/~mblack/bay.html
