The World is Going to Hell, One School at a Time.

OK, this post isn’t exactly related to Montreal specifically, but more of a call for debate, I guess. Or it’s possibly a bit of a rant.

There was yet another school shooting today, out in Pennsylvania. In an Amish community. In a schoolhouse of only 30 students in grades 1 through 8.

Some say that the Shooting that took place at Dawson College might have triggered (no pun intended) this domino effect. Seems as though anyone can get their name up on TV these days. All they have to do is open fire in a public place, schools apparently preferred, and open fire, then killing theirself. I don’t get it. Is this a growing trend? Is there some obscure cult that no one is aware of yet? Did this cult instruct it’s members to attack a school on a weekly basis? Can we get a copy of that schedule?

And why is no one on Metblog Philly covering it? Same as last week’s shooting in Colorado, nobody from Metblog Denver even made a mention of it…

So many questions and no answers.

I can’t imagine what you must be feeling, having been so close to a recent shooting and now hearing about this. This is the third school shooting in the U.S. in a week. Yes, it would appear that this world is going crazy. And I’m not sure what more can be said. In reference to Philly metblog, perhaps they are not covering it because it’s not happening right in Philly.

I’m going frickin’ nuts with all of these shootings. I’ve moved on from ours, and not that I’m trying to forget, but it’s hard to put it past me (same goes for everyone at Dawson) when it keeps coming back up in the news each time there’s another shooting.

As for the other Metblogs… yeah, I figure they’re not mentionning it cause it’s not right there, but I’d like to think that if something happens, say in Quebec City, we’d at least mention it here, no?

I don’t have stats but some U.S. people after the Dawson shooting said that this kind of event is quite frequent there to the point that it doesn’t get much coverage in the end. Maybe people (both media & blogs) are afraid to talk about it to avoid spreading of such behavior (it’s known that there can be a “me too” effect with psychotic people).

I would not say that our world has gone crazy but there’s probably more and more trends that allow some mad people to commit the worst thing they could do. However this last school shooting is particularly sordid.

Came across an interesting post via BoingBoing lastnight from “Copycat” expert Loren Coleman. He actually predicts more school shootings in the near future… isn’t that like adding fuel to the fire?
