Cafe Society… Never on Sunday
My Old Port neighborhood has one of Montreal’s best and coolest cafes — Olive & Gourmando (on Saint Paul). The funky ambiance, fresh-baked pastries, and fresh-squeezed orange juice are everything you could want. The problem is, I usually want it on Sunday and Monday, when O&G is inexplicably closed.
Thanks to Gourmet Magazine, I found another nearby cafe, Cluny Art Bar (on Prince Street), which I also love. It’s in the same building as the Darling Foundry and has a New York art-gallery ambiance. Even better, it’s open on Monday.
That leaves only Sunday without a cafe hang-out. I don’t understand the business logic of being closed on the day people most want to lounge over a latte and a stack of magazines. Where do the rest of you loll about on Sundays? Please don’t say at home. I can’t make a decent cappucino, not to mention baking pastries. (I consider boiling noodles to be “cooking.”)

Ever tried “Le Cartet” on McGill? (just below Place d’Youville on the west side of McGill). Lovely spot.
I’ll second that. Their sunday brunch is a gut-buster, but very delicious!
Not so much a cafe but a really nice place for brunch in Old Mtl is Le Jardin Nelson. They have a lovely courtyard out back in the summer time.
Howdy!
A) Titanic, run by Patrick and Rob of Cluny fame is closer to you and opens earlier on Mondays.
B) If you want a wicked cool place to hang out on Sundays, there is that church around the corner from your place… :-)
C) If you’re not too picky, and feel like you’re missing a suburban feeling, Eggspectations on St F-X & St Jacques will do in a pinch.
D) If you wake up late on Sunday, you might want to try Stash’s, 200 St-Paul W, or Verses in the Hotel Nelligan, 106 St-Paul W as well.
