Montreal General hotline and update

Dedicated phone line to the Hopital General de Montreal: (514) 843-2839

From Long:

STM buses are being brought in to be used as places to question anybody who can give any information.

No more casualties have been found in the last 10 minutes. 12 patients at Hopital General including 6 critical.

Streets are clearing up. People have started to disperse.

From the guy behind 911:
The first call came in at 12:42 reporting shootings around a vending machine.

From Vila:

A representative from Montreal General says that the hospital is on code orange. She says that it is too soon to provide an accurate estimate of the number of injured that have been brought in so far.

She did confirm that two people are in surgery with life threatening injuries.

From Lisa:

The latest report from Associated Press is here

From Vila:

A report from a colleague who teaches at Dawson indicates that the shootings began near the main office of the Continuing Education department.

Update at 3:28 PM: Montreal General has confirmed that 15 people have been admitted. Six are in critical condition; 2 are in serious condition; 7 are stable.

Update from Andre: First images showing up on Flickr but all they seem to show are the tv crews.

From Vila (3:40 PM):

Patrice Grenier, the ambulance driver who was first on the scene, reports that emergency crews could not access the building for 20 minutes because of security concerns

In addition to Montreal General, some injured students have been brought to Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Students at Concordia University have set up a crisis centre for families and emergency workers.

From Christelle:

16h30 press conference at the hospital…

From Long:

A third hotline number has been added: (514) 280-2805

From Andre:

Impressive image gallery on Cyberpresse.

From Vila (4:00 PM):

Police confirm that there was only one gunman, who was “neutralized.”

RDI reports that 13 people have been wounded, one critically. They remind us that the situation is “fluid.”

IMPORTANT: A news conference will be held at Montreal General Hospital at 4:30 PM, which will be broadcast on all the major news networks. We can expect more accurate information then.

A positive note on an otherwise awful day: Brent Farrington from the Canadian Federation of Students reports that student groups from all across the city are coming to Concordia’s crisis centre to provide support.
