New Bike Paths
I got off a plane from Paris on Monday and took my bike to get to work Tuesday morning. Either it’s the jet lag or the city has painted a new bike path on St-Urbain. This is awesome news. More info here:

I forsee big problems. In the morning rush hour, St. Urbain gets an extra lane to its right when no cars are allowed to park in that lane. (Of course there is always one or two car who do park there which causes dangerous situations when cars using that lane speed-merge back to the left, bit I digress)
The new bike path is between that rightmost lane and the other lanes. Can you see yourself cycling with cars wizzing by on both sides of you?
I can’t and I won’t. I’ll continue taking the bike path on Clark and Esplanade.
I’ve ridden it three days now and it appears the reserved lane for cars in the mornings no longer exists.. At least no one was driving on it. So the lane (2 in the mornings) is completely car free.
The new bike lanes provide cyclists with a piece of the road to call our own. Something we’ve never had before. Don’t go riding against the flow of traffic, these are one-way bike lanes, so as long as everybody does the same thing (i.s. rides in the same direction) we are a lot safer. Of course, there’s a large number of traffic law rebels (idiots) in this town…
