Weapons in schools

The morning news today revealed that a study shows that about 1/5th of Montreal boys in high schools have brought weapons to school, including knives, blunt objects, pepper spray, and mace. “Luckily” only about 2% have brought guns.

When I was in high school, I don’t remember people having weapons or even rumors of such things. If it’s already 1/5 now, it worries me to think ahead and wonder what the statistics will be when my oldest daughter, set to start kindergarten next year, reaches high school.

It makes me wonder when this became so common.

My friend in high school kept a “Rambo” knife in her locker. This was back in the 80’s. The worst she did with it was carve up the desk in the back of chemistry class. But she got detention for it so it was actually kind of funny. Wouldn’t want to be in high school today.

    Howdy!

I’d worry more about the study, Blunt Objects would include baseball bats and hockey sticks brought in order to play, I would also assume that there are a fair number of 16 year old women who are given pepper spray or mace by their parents to carry around in their purse, and then don’t get me started about the Swiss Army Knives.

The study was comissioned by the ministry of Public Safety, if they can convince people that they should be scared, then the government is much more likely to throw money at them.
