She was somebody’s mother
Last week, as we were driving home, we heard on the traffic report that a pedestrian had been killed by a truck as she crossed the access road to Highway 20 on 55th Ave in Lachine. I didn’t think much of it at the time, other than the fact that I’m always joking that we should keep our affairs in order in case we ever get run over by a truck.
Today I learned that she wasn’t just another anonymous victim. She was the mother and mother-in-law of two colleagues from my own research group. Life really sucks sometimes.

That’s sad. They say the number of pedestrian fatalities has gone up this year. I had a close call on Sherbrooke when a PT Cruiser sped across a red in the middle of rush hour. Don’t know if the driver just didn’t see the light. Maybe he was on a cell phone.
I dont know, may be its the heat, but people are behaving really stupid on the roads this summer. Or should i say more then usual.
A number of times i’ve seen people not stoping at stop signs at all and going through red lights. Crazy!
I mean going 120 on Decarie is one thing, but not stoping at stop in a quiet neighbourhood is completely the other.
