What is INDIE?
Hey everyone!
My good friend Dave Cool (Yep, that is his real name) released his first independent movie called “What is INDIE?” back toward the end of May. If you’re into independent music or even remotely curious as to exactly what it means to be “Indie”, this film is a great looking glass into the world of independant music and what it means to independent artists. It’s quite insightful to say the least.
Why is this of any interest? Well, Dave Cool is a fellow Montrealer and runs his own record label, Stand Alone Records, “that actually encourages artists not to sign record deals but instead start their own labels. So the label doesn’t ’sign’ artists like a traditional record label would, but rather through music and film projects it focuses on promoting the independent music movement itself.”
He also self-financed the film. Took him and a crew of two 18 months to complete. Interviewed over 25 artists and industry experts… a lot of hard work went into answering one simple little question: What is Indie?
Keep an eye on the What is INDIE? website for upcoming screenings of the movie. Or, with the DVD readily available, you can purchase a copy here.

I believe the most up to date screening info is available at the flicks MySpace page. Check it out.
Congratulations Dave, on making it to the end of a grueling 18 months and launching a fine film.
