It’s not the heat. It’s the humidity
How cliche eh ? But it’s so freaking true. Today EC is announcing a humidex of 45 or so with a heat advisory. As if this writing, if the clouds stay in place, I’m not entirely sure we will make it to that.
So many people in this city look forward to summer. I look forward to spring, but not so much summer. I hate Montreal’s heat and humidity. Two weeks of this stuff and I am looking forward to September. It’s too humid.
I am sure that people who really love this weather also have AC in their houses, drive to work in AC’d cars, park in underground parking and work in AC’d offices! Ok, maybe not all, but spend a few days in my apartment and tell me if you really like this muck they call for “air”.
Enough complaining. It should end Wednesday night and cool off by Thursday morning.
There are a group of Montreal weather lovers who who have a dedicated website just to weather. There’s everything a weather nerd could ever want there including a very lively discussion group.
For those of you who hate this weather as much as me, check out these two links:
Look for Dew Point. This is the forecast of one weather model (GEM) that is issued at midnight for the coming days.
This is also GEM but issued at noon
Generally a Dew Point of 18c or higher is humid. It’s the best I have found so far to determine when the air will dry up. There are other models which may give a different result but the general trend is often the same.. especially in regards to dew points.
So two more days of this mess and then I can breathe again.

Oh God! I had to run around the McGILL campus to hunt for signatures, including the McIntyre Building up the hill. This is worthy of central North Carolina.
Ugh. Can’t wait for -40c.
I went outside one second on my balcony and man it is hot!!!!! I much rather stay inside in my comfy air conditioned space!
I don’t have AC at home, fortunately I do have a basement.
I get the feeling that tonight’s thunderstoms are going to be nasty.
Our janitor called around noon and told me to turn off our living room AC unit because apparently the water was leaking into the apartment below. In the 20 minutes that it took me to turn it off, check the entire floor, wall, and window sill for leaks, and to vacuum and replace the filter to see if that would help, it got ridiculously hot in here.
I ended up calling the guy back and found out that the water was dripping PROPERLY, not leaking, and was actually bouncing off their window sill and onto their window frame. So I told him that I did the best I could, hoped that it was better now, and said there was no way I was going to keep the AC off in the top floor apartment with the sun beating down and two young children. Sheesh.
Sherry,
That reminds me of the ice storm when people would flip into franctic states because their neighbors were running generators that kept them up all night.
Between the drops of water and your kids being cool, I’d keep the AC running.
I ran off to my parent’s last night. They have AC. Ahhh, slept like a baby. What a storm eh ? I think there might be more tomorrow.
It should start to cool off during the night, or tomorrow morning. But the end of this mess is near!
