Now your mom will know where you did it

Hoedic has just informed me that JoBlo has translated one of our most famous entry, Where Yulbloggers did the Nasty, in today’s edition of Le Devoir.

    Howdy!

I have never been so happy that I missed a YULblog meeting.

They are allowed to just republish articles from a weblog like that? I saw they had the source but still! :P

Good point, I hadn’t thought of that. And now that I go look up the terms, it does appear that they can’t. The key points that they screw up on seem to be the following:

Noncommercial. You may not use this work for commercial purposes.

Le Devoir is a commercial enterprise.

No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

She did selective editing, which most definitely is transforming. I won’t get into whether a translation is. Notice no mention of an Anglican Church, or the question of the month.

For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. Any of these conditions can be waived if you get permission from the author.

Since Andre says that it was Hoedic who informed him, I don’t think that permission was asked. And they sure as shootin’ didn’t mention anything about Creative Commons.

So then the question is, does anyone other than myself want to point out to Le Devoir that what they did was wrong?

Good points although I did inform our Metroblogging overlords about this and they seemed happy about the article. It’s rare enough for the mainstream media to even acknowledge using a blog as their source.

Anyway I’ll forward your comment to them to see what they think about this.

Sound cool. It also can be mentioned to Le Devoir in a less official manner, too.

*Feeling happy that it’s still a safe secret here*
