My picks for Montreal Art Galleries

Howdy!

I’ve been asked twice now in the past week to reccommend some art galleries for people coming into town to visit. I figure I could make this public and everyone could go home happy.

My standard list, generally good galleries regardless of the exhibit:
Art Mur, 5826 St-Hubert. 933-0711
Circa, 372 Ste-Catherine W, #444 (Belgo). 393-8248
Galerie de l’UQAM, 1400 Berri, Room J-R120, (514) 987-8421
Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery, Concordia University, 1400 Maisonneuve Blvd, W., (514) 848-2424 ext. 4750
Liane and Danny Taran Gallery, 5170 Côte-Ste-Catherine Rd., (514) 739-2301
René Blouin Gallery, 372 Ste-Catherine St. W., #501, (514) 393-9969
Pierre-François Ouellette Contemporain Art, 372 Ste-Catherine St., W., #216, (514) 395-6032
Graff Gallery, 963 Rachel St. E., (514) 526-2616
Landau Contemporary at Galerie Dominion, 1438 Sherbrooke St. W., (514) 845-7471

Then there are rough around the edges, very funky spaces (like my own) much more enjoyable to visit, but the art varies an awful lot.
Zeke’s Gallery, 3955 Saint Laurent, (514) 288-2233
Pink espace, 1399 St-Jacques, (514) 935-9851
Wilder & Davis, 257 Rachel St. E., (514) 289-0849
Café-Bar Le Boudoir 850 Mont-Royal Est, (514) 526 2819

And then the specific shows up now that are good.
“Le bal des chasseurs;” Yergeau du Quartier Latin, 2060 Joly. 843-0955
Brian Jungen, Musée d’art contemporain, 185 Ste-Catherine W. 847-6226
“La carte postale, sur la piste ou à la plage;” Centre de conservation de BAnQ, 2275 Holt.
