Super Stupid

Howdy!

1. Someone decided that Sainte Catherine street needed a sidewalk sale. So they closed yesterday and today from Atwater to Saint Urbain.

2. The good people at the Just for Laughs Festival have always closed streets so they could have ‘free’ shows. This year (and this weekend) Saint Laurent boulevard is closed from Sherbrooke to Rene Levesque.

3. So, if you’re downtown today (or yesterday) Sainte Catherine closed from Atwater to Saint Urbain, open from Saint Urbain to Saint Laurent and closed at Saint Laurent again. Super smooth.

Why not close to traffic this stretch of Sainte Catherine street (Atwater – St-Urbain) during summertime?

This can be a great place for shopping, dining, having a beer. This can be a nice place for shows all summer long and not only for the Jazz, Just For Laugh or Francopholie festivals.

Anyway, you can’t park on this street (unless you’re lucky), it’s always a pain to go through because of the traffic jams (again, unless you’re lucky) and pedestrians are crossing this street with almost no regards to traffic lights.

    What do you think?

It’s a good time to forget about cars, cabs, buses and subways, and bring out bicycles, rollerblades and feet to walk.

Ok.. It’s an inconvenience for the people who want to go there with their cars.. But then again René-Lévesque, Maisonneuve, etc are opened. Just think about the ‘poor’ people who are stuck at the street corners, 12 hours long, in the heat and the sun to block these streets with annoying pedestrians who don’t wait for their lights and cars who just speed through anyhow. That’s just great.

Hehe, Zeke ya beat me to it. I was going to write something about the sidewalk sale. I grabbed a few photos while I was there today. Nothing too spectacular, but it was a nice walk around town.

I must say as someone sans voiture, I do love it when they close the streets for festivals and sidewalk sales. I love the atmosphere of people milling about in the summer sun and I do love to grab a bargain!
