The Point Wish Softball Tournament

Point Wish TournamentEvery year for the past 14 years, the burrow of Point St. Charles has held a softball tournament to help raise money for The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, a non-profit organization that helps out children with life threatening illnesses. In 2005 alone, nearly $60,000.00 was raised and donated to the Foundation. Since the yearly event began back in 1993, over $440,000.00 has been raised.

Approximately 40 softball teams will participate this year, which makes The Point Wish Softball Tournament one of the largest in Canada.

Normally held at LeBer Park in Point St. Charles, this years tourney will take place at Therrien Park in Verdun because LeBer Park is currently undergoing some major renovations due to contaminated soil and some general park enhancements. The games begin on Friday, August 4th at 6:15pm and run till Sunday August 6th, where presentations will take place at 2:30pm.

Food and refreshments will be available and are donated from local companies, notable ones include IGA Point St. Charles who co-ordinates the available beer, Multimags supplies 100 cases of soft drinks and CNC Packing offer up delicious hot dogs! There are countless other wonderful individuals and companies that donate time, money and goods for the tournament and the Foundation.

If you would like to donate, participate in any way or if you have any other inquiries, you can contact the very kind and helpful Howie Myers, who was kind enough to provide me with a few details, thanks Howie (and thank you too, Kiki).

Sadly, if you’re looking to put together a team for this year’s tournament, there is no more room, they already have a waiting list of 6-7 teams, but you can try for next year…

I hope to see many people there, it’s always a great time! I’ll try to get some photos up after the tournament. In the meantime, here are some from last year (scroll down about halfway and look for “WISH”).

Hey, my name is Andy, and I just came across your softball blog. If you know of any softball teams who aren’t able to join the tournament, tell them that they should check out a site called http://www.sportsvite.com . They can sign their team up and play with others from the area in pick-up games. It’s a cool site, and it’s really effective in staring up games.

Thanks Andy, I’ll keep that in mind and pass it along, it’s good to know.
