They need to build a parking garage near keypoint metro stations so that cars don't clog up the city streets, like the autopark in the South Shore. But in a city where public transportation is better than some cities (like say, New Orleans) and less confusing than most *coughnewyorkcitycough*, I wouldn't really complain about their system. Montreal is a relatively small city with short distances, I don't see a use for a car if you're living on the island. Invest your 60 bucks and save a world of fortune on gas and car insurance, all you need is good winter clothing and an umbrella to confront the seasonal weather. This is where an iPod is of use during your 30 mins of commuting.

I commute outbound to Laval (for now), and when/if they do finish the Laval metro line, my car will also sit in front of my apartment during the day. Better for it to sit and not make pollution most of the time than to be driven every day, no? Isn't that the true advantage of living in a city with a useful public transport system...isn't this a good sign? These are (maybe) cars that would otherwise be driven to some stupid office park but instead (perhaps) their owners don't need them every day.

Agreed. To many cars especialy when with all the quads in our area (because you seem to live a few corners away from me) with many owning 2 cars but with only 2 parking spaces in front of the quadruplex. This leaves not enough space to park for anyone. And when you live near a metro station, folks from Laval use the free parking space to take the subway. At the end of the day, there's never any parking space.
