We've had good success with a cassette adaptor. You plug it into your ipod and then insert the attached casette into the tape deck. Unfortunately, many car radios are not equipped with cassette players these days but it works for us with our very old VW

The AUX or CD changer connections are definitely the way to go, but if your stereo doesn't have them or if there's no adapter (ie lexus), then you could also use a direct FM connection, where the FM transmitter actually sits in between the antenna input and the antenna itself. FM transmitters that broadcast in the air itself are useless.

We've tried the Griffin and other FM transmitters and they aren't worth shit. I'm looking either for an iPod-adapted car stereo or a way to connect my iPod to the stereo using, for example, the connection for the CD changer.

The Apple Store (Canada)sells iPod accessories for car audio. They have many FM transmitters that should work. Not having used any of that nor having an iPod, I can only speculate.

As I understand it, the transmitters allow to transmit songs from the iPod to an FM frequency.

This product and this one seem particularly interesting. But you might want to talk to someone about this at a store like Futureshop or Microbytes or others instead of buying online.
