Now that’s true Multi-media
The Internet is international and everyone seems to be ‘doing it’. So why bother with other media. There’s much talk about the pressure being put on other media, and indeed there have been many layoffs in the newspaper industry. However the strongest approach is to use a variety of media in a complementary way. Perhaps you can even get some synergy going. For those who don’t use the word much, that’s Greek for 2 + 2 = 5.
That was the theme in a previous post. Currently you can go and see a film at the CinĂ©ma du Parc all about Craigslist. There are now a whole series of Craigslists in major cities, including Montreal. It’s one of the most successful concepts and it obviously is further helped by appearing in a film. The other example quoted was the new glossy magazine, The Search Marketing Standard. This is all about Search Marketing on the Internet, so most of the publicity for it is naturally going via the medium it is all about. Some are questioning whether there is space for a traditional magazine on this topic. I’m sure the synergy again will guarantee success for this venture.
That’s fine on the international scene, but how can we Think global, act local. Well the same multi-media approach can work extremely well. If you are trying to get the attention of people in your borough or suburb, how can you use other media in a complementary way to your Internet efforts. One example is local radio. Last night I had the pleasure of taking part in a Round Table Discussion on Radio 940 Montreal. It was hosted by Sherry Thacker of Women’s Entrepreneurial Networking Systems. The subject was how to market using the Internet. There we have synergy between media again.
So what other media might you use if you want to act local. What if you want to let people on your street know you exist and can do something useful there. In the olden days, you would hire someone to walk around with sandwich boards displaying posters. I won’t go into the modern variant of having publicity messages painted on parts of your body. That’s certainly another way to fuel some viral or buzz marketing and get all the bloggers spreading the word.
What hit me in this morning’s Gazette was a new service for free-standing poster boards being tried out in Montreal. It’s like a whole series of miniature billboards and is being tried out in the cultural nucleus around Place des Arts. Of course you can find more about it on the Internet at their website. Remember you heard about it here.
