Tempest in a teapot?

Howdy!

Now that the Climate Change Conference has finished and we can write about other things, I noticed this entry at YULBLog.

Patrick is asking if businesses should be allowed to be listed on YULblog. I run a business that is listed on YULBlog, without going through the entire list of Montreal bloggers, I am fairly certain that of the gazillion blogs listed there are a significant number that are businesses. I also know that there are some significant blogs that are not listed on YULBLog.

Basically, my point is that I am very happy and quite pleased that YULBlog is inclusive and open to anybody and everybody there are no hoops or forms or fees to fill out or pay, I don’t want to see this changed.

However, feel free to disagree with me, but speak up, thanks.

Elections

There is a partial provincial election in Outremont today. I have to go vote. But I still don’t know whom to give my precious vote to! Potential candidates include: Farouk Karim from the Parti Qu

.. and perhaps the Climate Change Conference achieved as much as was possible

A BBC account of the UK Government view of the Conference suggests the Conference pushed the US about as much as it could be pushed at the moment. The US almost walked away from any involvement at this time.

The Montreal Climate Action Plan To Combat Global Warming

The Montreal Climate Change Conference did more than might have been expected to push forward the global actions needed to slow down the devastating effects of global warming. The Kyoto participants have signed on for a long-term action process. Only the USA and Australia are not signatories to Kyoto. However even they are involved in a non-binding process to achieve improvements.

The other way the conference succeeded was in the massive publicity given to the problem and the need for solutions. When you see the way US citizens or Australian citizens will be reading about what the rest of the world is doing, the pressure will be on for their leaders to lead and stop digging their heels in.

Fire and Ice, take deux

We finally had the time to go to the second edition of the Telus Fire and Ice fireworks shows and obviously we weren’t the only ones with that idea. The area surrounding the Bonsecours skating rink was absolutely packed but, fortunately for us, few people knew the best place to view the fireworks. Since I won’t be going to the December 17th and 24th representations, I’ll share my secret with you. You have to go between the river and the pavilion.

Montreal Climate Change Conference Will Change Minds

The BBC reports Last-minute climate deals reached. It seems that Mr. Clinton’s words at the Conference may have been heard in the right places in the USA. Hopefully we have lift-off.

Even the URL of the links don’t exist; no redirecting or forwarding or anything. I wonder what’s the point of these comment spam.

Mad props to the Arcade Fire

First, Montrealers took the Canadian Blog Awards by storm–now, they’re heading straight for the Grammies! I can’t think of a band that deserves it more…

Bill Clinton in Montreal today at the Climate Change Conference

The Globe and Mail says that former US President Bill Clinton will likely speak at the Montreal Climate Change conference. Even though there was some US criticism of what our Prime Minister, Paul Martin, said yesterday, the international pressure on the US to join the movement is mounting. You’d think there was ample evidence within the US Homeland to realize that we are seeing massive climate change now and concerted action is essential.

OMG!!! That’s What That Was!?!

I was boarding my flight back to Montreal from Miami last night when I see a line of police cars and emergency vehicles racing along the tarmack over to a nearby gate just out of view. We board the plane, get pushed away from the gate, and make our way for takeoff. Through the windows on the opposite side I can see all the police cars and emergency vehicles surrounding the plane. So as we were taking off I took this picture.

You can see our wing tip in the top left corner. So I get to work today and my boss asks if my flight back was delayed. I asked why and he said some guy was shot because he said he had a bomb. This is getting a bit unsettling because this is not the first, second, or third time that I have been close to bombs going off.
