October where are thou?
It’s hard to believe that October is usually one of my favorite month. I adore fall foliage and crisp blue skies but both have been seriously lacking this year. This image was taken exactly one year ago and I have been eagerly anticipating a repeat performance this year.
Unfortunately, what we got instead was a summer-like heat wave followed by 2 weeks of rain. I am not sure if this is related but it appears that the trees can’t seem to agree on the best time to change colors. Some are still green while others are already bare. Furthermore yellow has been the dominant color which is not what I am looking for.
There is some hope for next weekend so I’m crossing my fingers and everything else that sticks out. Comments on the situation around the island are most welcome, especially if you see lots of bright orange and red.

From my office near the JC bridge, it depends on the elevation and which direction you look. To the north on the plateau, there are some vibrant reds that have come to life since Monday, but there are still some solidly green trees and bare ones like you said. To the south and east down at river level, the trees are just starting to change with a majority still green. To the west on the mont, it has an overall orange hue, but the green and red trees are in limited numbers.
On the south shore, we are in the microclimate shadow of the St Lawrence. So we also have only started to see the leaves change early this week. There were no leaves on our lawn last weekend but they are finally starting to accumulate.
I hear you . I’ve been patiently bidding my time so I can go up to Mont-Tremblan and start shooting. But the good times just arent comming.
