Mois de la photo

September is Le mois de la photo (Photography Month) in Montreal and you can find photography exhibits all over town. I have very unsophisticated tastes in art, but I thought that the most original is Lindy Lee’s creation where she used images of her family members at different stages of their lives. You can check it out at the Amerst Art Centre.

Howdy!
Who says that you have unsophisticated tastes in art?
Half of the time I was looking at an exposition and thinking “they are getting in a gallery with THAT?” It usually takes less than 5 seconds before my gut tells me whether I like something or not. Part of the reason may be that, with no formal art training since Secondaire 3, I almost never get the “inner meaning” of a piece.
Sometime I simply need to give it more time. A good example would be one of the exposition at la Maison de la culture, on Frontenac, where you see several dozen photographs of an open parking space between two parked cars. I really didn’t get it, the photography was not very original and the subject was something you see every day. That is, until I read some of the descriptions and realized that the images were taken from all over the world. I then decided to try to guess which country each shot came from based on a variety of subtle clues in the image.
