Love Thy Italian & Vietnamese neighbors.

Second in the series

Indeed, there aren’t many Quebecers this part of my street. That’s the part close to the metro station Saint-Michel where there are only duplexes. I wonder why.

Our neighbor to our South side is an old lady who lives alone. When I was a kid, I use to play basketball in our little yard and she got very angry every time the ball dropped in her yard, because it crushed all her tomato plants. Whenever she wasn’t around I would quickly jump over the fence to get the ball.

To the North lives one big united family in the whole duplex. From time to time, we talk to them about sometimes about housekeeping, sometimes about vegetation and sometimes about the snow that we all have the shove during winter. They are nice people.

To the west, in front of our house lives… I can’t say. They seem to never get out, so no one ever sees them. It sounds like some mystery novel with a good thrill to find out what is going on in that house.

Next to that one, is another duplex with three generations of one family living there. During the summer, the old man spends his whole days sitting in front of his house, watching cars passing by or just looking around. While his niece plays with her friends running in the streets.

Finally, above us lives our beloved tenant; an old Vietnamese couple with their niece who was sent here to study. We don’t see the old man much except when they invite us or we invite them for a social gathering. His wife always cooks something for us to eat and she keeps our little garden well and alive. Over time, they have become close friends to our family. Tenant-wise, they are the best an owner can ask for. During winter, after a snowfall, they often go out and help us shove the snow and like I already said, they keep our plants alive and give us food. Oh no, it’s not food, it’s good food.

I’m hungry now…
